Keep Ben in the News

Take one healthy child, call it something nice...
Scrub away the grime, negotiate a price...

Cheered Me UP

Thursday, 10 January 2008

I have been surfing the net most of the day, nothing unusual there haha... Oh... but there was! I came across something that has had me bursting out laughing ever since...

Now I have know idea who wrote this I found it on the front page of link
Family Pages. Here goes, this is it.

CHILDREN

Some would gather money, along the path of life,
Some would gather roses, and rest from earthly strife.
But I would gather children, from among the thorns of sin,
I would seek that shining curl, and a shy, bright toothless grin.
For money cannot enter, the land of endless day,
and roses that are gathered in, will wilt along the way.

But oh,the laughing children,whose hearts have been set free;
when the gate swings wide to heaven,
I can take them in with me!

Sorry I am still laughing. It has struck me that maybe it's me... Maybe I am more twisted than the author! The name of the site 'forever families' (I went to it thinking it was a humorous adoptee blog) misled me (not a hard thing to do) but I quickly realised it is serious. I couldn't get past the front page for fear of wetting myself! So I know I am not supposed to find it funny. I take adoption matters very serious. In adoptee city the majority of us have a wicked sense of humour but their is an unwritten rule (not sure that's the right term... it will do) fellow adoptees can make jokes about adoption and we just 'get it' if the same thing was said in a light hearted way by a none adoptee a siren goes off in our heads! and we are genuinely offended, I'm saying we but I could well be more delusional than I think! Normally I would be highly offended to read that any child was thought of as having been scooped up from the gutter. I'm laughing again. Do people really think 'arh that's lovely' after reading such drivel haha. Please someone anyone, I don't even care if you are madder than me, please tell me you found it funny.
I have printed it off and hung it on my wall. Whenever I find myself getting too serious and deflated about adoption I will just read the poem.

A miracle price

Tuesday, 6 November 2007

Take one healthy child,
negotiate a price
scrub away the grime
call it something nice

When it starts to talk
make sure that it's polite
and when it calls you mother
be sure to say 'that's right'

Send it to a good school
the best that you can find
what a lucky bastard
to have a mum so kind

That God blessed little miracle
is a fucked up fairy tale
since when did any miracle
come with bill of sale

To Make Me Whole

Monday, 24 September 2007

th_baby-2
I need to know
From where I came
What made me so?

Something is missing
It’s not in my mind
A life times search
My core to find

I knew I was different
Not like the rest
As a growing child
Felt second best

Their eyes were blue
Mine were green
A constant reminder
Of what might have been

A walk to school
Faces to scan
She might have been there...
I should have ran

Scared lonely nights
My dreams came alive
I’d made her so real...
But she failed to arrive

It never goes away
That need to find
It’s the core of my soul...
The key to my mind.

Placements

Thursday, 13 September 2007

Another door
Another bed
Papers to shuffle
Go rest your head...

Another day
Another place
Another child
A different face

Long-term short term
Hard to place
Forget the name
Another case

Targets budgets
Paid to cope
Another home
Give words of hope

Childhood lives
Lost in wait
Reasons for change
In the welfare state

Just a little poem of reality.

Child of the swinging 60's

Friday, 24 August 2007

This is for you mum. Weird isnt it,mum, I can write the word but I cant say it!

A child of the swinging 60's
A mother all alone,
No one to offer any help
And a father marked unknown.

However, could she keep her child?...

When all around screamed shame,
Society frowned upon it...
And along adoption came.

A problem to correct
Decisions for them to make,
Unfit, unwed mother
Give birth for them to take.

Middle class wealthy family
The balance seems just right,
Rid the shameless mother
Leave her nothing left to fight.

Baby goes to decent home
A husband and a wife,
Never mind the mother
Who gave that very life.

Even if a loving home
The child feels less than whole,
So many unanswered questions
Fragmented in the soul.

Empty aching arms
Two splintered lives to heal,
A past that’s gone forever
And years more pain to feel.

Love me just Once

Monday, 20 August 2007

Strangled twisted roots
Preventing all potential,
Won’t someone give a damn?
Stop me going mental.

Hold me in your arms
Give me some direction,
Shattered fragile mind
Starved of all affection.

Life is just a journey
A long winding road,
Someone please protect me
From the unrelenting cold.

The sky without birds
The sea without fish,
A heart with no beat
Is all that I wish.

I ache to be loved
For someone to care,
What have I done?
To have no one there.

Was I born bad?
My mothers curse,
Tormented and empty
Could I feel any worse?

Pray give me hope
A reason to be,
Free from this pain
Happy with me
.
Love me just once
That’s all I ask,
To face the world
Discarding my mask.
